I'm completely filled with emotion at this time about receiving the 2005 Chicago Cubs Buddy of the Year Award. I couldn't have done this without my buddy Ryan Dempster and his 33 saves with only 35 opportunities. I'm honored to know that Ryan was the best of the not-so-well-known on this below average Cubs team and have even named my first born after him! Here's to 2006, Mr. Dempster!

Cubs Buddies were started as a joke a few years
ago. We were going to the Cubs game and we were talking and someone said "Alou is my buddy. He is my guy." And we thought that was fun
to each have our own Cubs buddy for the players that weren't doing so well.
So now we each have a buddy and we cheer more loudly for him than anyone
else. We are that player's biggest fan. Each week a buddy of the week is
selected based on the player's performance that past week. The Buddy of
the Year are the buddies the earned the most buddies of the week.
